Wasim Akram is currently on commentary duty in England with Pakistan due to complete their tour soon. Having lost the first encounter at Lord’s, Joe Root’s men have fought their way and now find themselves in a winning position in the second Test at Headingley. While Akram was certainly happy following the first Test, a poor Pakistani performance has now seen him retract his words and direct them to Mohammad Amir.
The Pakistan pacer was one of the least impressive on the day and managed to pick up just the two wickets, something that prompted Akram to lash out at his bowling prowess. It was also evident that Amir was not able to get the ball to swing as much as he wanted.
In fact, Akram had prompted Amir to bowl stump to stump as early as the Pakistan Super League, but to no avail “I have asked him to bowl closer to the stumps but he has his mind set where he has to land,” he said.
Had asked Amir to bowl closer to the stumps: Wasim Akram
Akram went on to add that he would prefer Amir to bowl closer to the stumps when the ball is not really swinging. Speaking about the same, Akram compared him to young debutant Sam Curran. “I think he should try to bowl closer to the stumps when it is not swinging. I would be quite difficult. Sam Curran is a good example. He was bowling closer to the stumps. So Amir just needs to come at least four to five inches closer to the stumps,” he added.
Wasim further said, “I was comfortable bowling from the other end. It totally depends upon the bowler from which end he wants to bowl. I prefer Amir should try to bowl from both ends.”
