Wasim Akram lauds Imran Khan for his positive influence on Pakistan
Imran Khan had earlier duly rejected the Nobel Peace Prize saying his not worthy of the same.
Pakistan’s former captain Imran Khan was elected as the country’s Prime Minister last year. Naya Pakistan is trending under his leadership is trending since then. The escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, according to many, was handled well by Imran. His decision to release the IAF Pilot Abhinandan Varthaman has earned a lot of accolades as well and Wasim Akram is all praise of his former teammate.
The aerial engagement between the armed forces of both the countries had led to Abhinandan being in Pakistan’s custody for close to 60 hours. Though he was released by them thanks to Imran’s decision as the Pakistan PM termed the move as ‘Peace gesture’. There were also calls for him to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
However, Imran Khan duly rejected it saying that he isn’t worthy of the same and it should be given to the one who will be able to solve the Kashmir dispute. “I am not worthy of the Nobel Peace prize. The person worthy of this would be the one who solves the Kashmir dispute according to the wishes of the Kashmiri people and paves the way for peace & human development in the subcontinent,” Imran’s tweet read.
Pakistan is safe under you, says Wasim
Wasim Akram responded to his tweet and showed immense respect towards his former captain. He also pointed out that the nation is feeling safe for the first time in many years. Wasim added that Imran Khan is already a Nobel Peace Prize winner in their eyes and he doesn’t need to earn it anymore.
“Our country has taken a gigantic step in the right direction since you became our leader.The people of our nation are positive and feel safe for the first time in years. Skipper, you don’t need to be awarded the Nobel Peace prize, in our eyes you already have it! #NayaPakistan,” Akram’s tweet read.
