Wasim Jaffer picks his India squad for Asia Cup and T20 WC 2022

It will be an important next few months for the Indian team to prepare for the T20 World Cup scheduled later in the year. In the last edition, the team was knocked out of the Super 12 stage, after they lost to Pakistan and New Zealand, and had a total of three wins in five league matches. Prior to the upcoming ICC event, Asia Cup will serve as a platform for the players to showcase their talent or regain their form.

Among the cricket fraternity, there have been speculations regarding the players as to who should be given chances based on their form in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 and domestic cricket as well. The latest to give an opinion on the squad is the former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer.

In the latest interaction, Jaffer chose his complete India squad for the Asia Cup and T20 World Cup. Apart from the regular choices, he picked both all-rounders Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja in the first choice Playing XI and chose Harshal Patel and Bhuvneshwar Kumar as the pace bowlers due to their form in the IPL 2022.

The former batter thinks the selectors are expected to pick nearly the same players in the squad for the Asia Cup and T20 WC, as both the tournaments are scheduled within a space of one month. He added that Deepak Chahar might be picked ahead of Mohammed Shami in the squad if the former is considered fit.

“In the Asia Cup, the selectors will not want to pick players who are not in the frame for the World Cup, and you need to back them without any chopping/changes,” said Jaffer on Sky247.net presents ‘Not Just Cricket’ Show on CricTracker.

“In the squad, it will be a choice between Mohammed Shami and Deepak Chahar, and it remains to be seen if he can attain full fitness ahead of the tournament. As a backup option, you can choose Prithvi Shaw, and Rahul Tripathi can be a wild card entry to this squad. Then Natarajan will be one of the contenders as well,” he added.
