Watch: Ahmed Shehzad gets into on-field spat with Wahab Riaz

Ahmed Shehzad and Wahab Riaz got into an on-field spat as the Quetta Gladiators faced Peshawar Zalmi in the PSL at the Sharjah cricket stadium. Shehzad and Riaz have shared the dressing room while representing their national side.

Both Shehzad and Riaz were eventually sanctioned by the PSL governing committee for the on-field altercation. It has been reported that both players were fined with Shehzad fined 30% of his match fee while Wahab Riaz had to part with 40% of his fee. Both players pleaded guilty when summoned by match referee Roshan Mahanama following the conclusion of the match.

The incident occurred in the fifth over of the Quetta bating innings. From a viewer’s point, it appeared that Shehzad infuriated Wahab Riaz by gesturing to the latter with his bat, to which the latter responded by exchanging a few words. Shehzad had smashed Riaz for a six before a well disguised slower delivery from Riaz ended up dismissing the right handed opener.

Speaking about the horrific encounter, Quetta skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed went on to state,” Such things can happen in the heat of the moment, particularly in the T20 format. The players will have to take responsibilities to ensure that things do not go out of bounds. It shouldn’t have happened.” Shahid Afridi too agreed with his counterpart.

The Peshawar Zalmi eventually went on to win the match by 8 wickets. However, the altercation between the two, who were once teammates, took the unnecessary limelight.
