Six years after Mohammad Amir committed perhaps the worst crime in cricket, the 24-year old has made a comeback to Test cricket. The venue – Lord’s, the place where he committed the crime. It couldn’t have been any more perfect and certainly, there was no way that Amir’s comeback could have been consummated any better than bowling at Lord’s.

However, in spite of all the buildup, Amir simply could not find the higher gears of his bowling. Pakistan may have clinched an impressive 75-run win, but the performance of Mohammad Amir was something startling especially for those who have followed his career for as long as we have. Yasir Shah’s 10 wickets and the bamboozled England batsmen meant that Pakistan and Amir were 1-0 up in the series.

Enter the second Test at Old Trafford. This time around, Misbah-ul-Haq tossed the ball to Amir, gesturing a quick vote of confidence to the young quickie. He didn’t say a thing with the tossing of the red cherry into Amir’s left palm being the only communication between captain and bowler. Perhaps Misbah didn’t have to say much. Perhaps he saw the fire and determination in the eyes of Mohammad Amir.

As the 24-year old southpaw raced into bowl many felt a sudden rush of nervousness and butterflies. Amir had certainly taken it up a notch and it up by at least a couple of gears. Evidence of the aforementioned statement can be found in the delivery Amir bowled to Alex Hales. Apart from dislodging the stumps, what was even more impressive was the way Amir had set up the wicket. Here is a quick clip released by the official account of the ECB.
