Watch: Alistair Cook vs James Anderson at World Darts Championship: England test captain Alistair Cook, who got what he called disappointing news of being demoted today from the ODI captaincy and is also no longer a part of the English team for the Cricket World Cup 2015 in Australia and New Zealand starting February 14, 2015. Cook in a rare position of glory took on team mate James Anderson at the by lanes of World Darts Championship.
The event was a pre-organised gala by the ECB in association with Professional Darts Corporation as England players love to play dart when on tour. Cook even though he was replaced from his ODI skippers post by Eoin Morgan, was sporty enough to participate at the event.
Cook also went on to beat Anderson at the exhibition dart game that they fought scoring a 100 and 140 with a double 13 and a final double 11 at the closing end. A left-hand batsman in cricket, Cook threw darts with his right and was better at it than the right arm pacer James Anderson.
After his victory in the Alistair Cook vs James Anderson match Cook said, “I was nervous up there, I scored a 100 up there – and it’s the first time I have done that on TV for a while. It was amazing up there but my legs were shaking.”
He has been off colour on the cricket field and this moments of success and lighter moments he had at the Alexandra Palace could well go on to boost his degrading morale. Though the 29 years old batsman has been far from form and century in cricket he scored a couple, here with the darts, with a 100 and a 140 that eventually won him the game as well.
Both the cricketers also enjoy a good bond between each other on and off the cricket field and there could have been no better person than Anderson to aid his friend to get down some units of pascal. In the list of sports that cricketers enjoy other than their game, dart could well see a rising trend.
