Jamaica Tallawahs were playing St Kitts and Nevis Patriots at Basseterre in the 4th match of CPL 2016. St Kitts won the toss and asked the opposition to bat first. The strong Tallawahs batting lineup with the likes of Chadwick Walton, Chris Gayle and Kumar Sangakkara forming the top order was expected to score big but they got off to a poor start as Walton was dismissed for 3. Gayle scored a fifty but fell soon on a Thisara Perera delivery. Sanga after a start was run out on 26 and things didn’t quite go their way until Andre Russell in the lower order hit a few meaty blows to give them a thrust towards the end.

The all-rounder scored 34 off 20 balls with 2 boundaries and 3 sixes. The last maximum that he struck went on to hit the security guard who was stationed just ahead of the stands and was facing the crowd.

The Tallawahs were on 135/5 in 18.2 over when Russell hit a Krishmar Santokie delivery for a six. It was a low full toss outside the off stump pretty much in Russell’s range and he thwacked it over long-on. The ball travelled the distance. But as it was on its way to crash into the concrete it met the security guard who was stationed there and hit her on the left ear. The batsman also realized it and had his hands on his head.

Later in the game, St Kitts were ordinary in the chase and despite having 3 wickets in hand fell 5 runs short of the target with that Jamaica registered a win in their first game of CPL 2016.
