Cricket is a funny game and at times, the most bizarre too. Even the weightiest of batsmen could get dismissed in the game in the most unbelievable way possible and Jake Weatherald proved the same during a domestic practice match in Australia on Monday. The 23-year-old southpaw got out hit wicket in a game against Victoria which left not only the spectators in splits but the batsman himself was utterly embarrassed.
Weatherald was batting for the National Performance Squad (NPS) when he played a front-foot drive to a left-hand seamer and while the ball hit him on his pads, his bat slipped out of his hand and touched the stumps behind him, dislodging the bails on its way down.
A stunning dismissal
The South Australian batsman, one of JLT Sheffield Shield leading batsmen last summer with 765 runs at 38.25 and also the most experienced player in the squad, stood stunned and embarrassed with his right-hand rested on his helmet grille. He then took a long walk back to the hut.
Weatherald has played in 25 first-class games to score 1,669 runs at an average of 35.51. He has scored three hundreds with the highest score of 152. He also has three hundreds in 14 List A games and one ton in 19 T20s.

The Twitterati responded to the video in funny ways with some even comparing him with former Sri Lankan captain Kumar Sangakkara who got out against India, also off a left-hand pacer in RP Singh, in an ODI in 2009.
Former Australian captain Steve Smith, who is serving a year-long ban in connection to a ball-tampering scandal in South Africa earlier this year, was also dismissed by hitting the wicket in the Caribbean Premier League.
Weatherald made the headlines in January this year during a Big Bash League match between Adelaide Strikers and Melbourne Renegades when he came up with a magnificent teamwork with Ben Laughlin which left the commentators stunned.
