The Melbourne Renegades vs Adelaide Strikers, the 27th match of the Big Bash League (BBL) season 6 started on a stunning note as Renegades pacer Ben Laughlin took an absolute blinder to send back the Strikers opener Aaron Finch just when he was starting to look good. Finch who is leading the Strikers won the toss and decided to bat first; he walked out to open the innings with his partner Marcus Harris at their home ground the Adelaide Oval.
He looked in good touch to start with and had already shot down four boundaries to mark his intentions clear and get the team off to a flying start. Harris at the other end was also looking in his element and it was an ominous sign for the Renegades. On the 4th ball of the 6th over of the innings fast bowler Michale Neser bowled a full outside off-stump delivery and the length invited Finch to go for an expansive lofted drive.
He didn’t time it as well as he would have liked but with no fielders in the deep it looked safe as the ball would land in the no-man’s land. All this while one man among many had his eyes glued on the ball as he ran behind judging the flight and trajectory of the ball. Pacer Ben Laughlin who was fielding at cover set off as soon as he saw the ball fly over his head. He chased it and sprint a few yards and realized the ball was still beyond his reach.
As it was taking the downward flight he threw himself in the air and reached out with both his hands and grabbed the ball in mid air. He put his body on the line to secure the catch; he got up bowed to the stunned crowd who couldn’t believe what they had just witnessed and the celebrations began. It was a huge wicket for the Renegades as Strikers had already scored 55 runs in just over 5 overs.
