Brendon McCullum and his Brisbane Heat have been making waves when it comes to their winning mentality in the Big Bash League. This was once again showcased by the manner in which he batted against the Melbourne Renegades in the 30th encounter of the 2017 edition of the BBL.
Being the skipper of the Heat, McCullum also has an added responsibility of keeping the heads of his side high and upward looking. However, there was a momentary lapse in the aforementioned statement when it came to him playing against the Melbourne Renegades in the GABBA in Brisbane.
After scoring a handful of runs with the bat, the 35-year old stripped off his batting gear got down on his knees and began to spit out a bit of saliva as he did. Many in the crowd held their breath in anticipation of McCullum getting back to his feet. Others also believed that it was a stroke that the former New Zealand skipper was going through at the time, but there was some solace when they found what exactly the issue was.
Eventually, it turned out that McCullum only had been choked after he had accidentally swallowed his chewing gym, something that would eventually ensure that he could continue batting further. This stoppage in play did little to hamper McCullum as he continued to do what he did best – smash the ball.
He also went ahead and slammed an incredible 68 as the Heat came within touching distance of securing a win of the Renegades. However, they would lose by a solitary run.
