Watch: Chris Gayle flirts with BBL anchor Mel McLaughlin
Chris Gayle is a colorful character and also among one of the most loved. He hardly draws any criticism except the bowlers who get thrashed mercilessly by him. However, Gayle landed in hot soup after he forgot the choice of words to use while talking to the female presenter Mel McLaughlin during an interview on live television.
Channel 10’s presenter McLaughlin immediately went up to Chris Gayle for quick byte on the sidelines after a whirlwind 41 from 15 balls. The interview began well but Gayle went overboard his comment and drew criticism for it.
“I wanted to come and have an interview with you as well,’ Gayle said on live television to McLaughlin.
“That’s the reason why I’m here, just to see your eyes for the first time. It’s nice so…”
“Hopefully we can win this game and have a drink after.” The 36-year-old batsman then awkwardly laughed off the comment and said, “Don’t blush baby.”
McLaughlin wasn’t impressed at this attempt and replied by telling Gayle, “I’m not blushing” before moving the interview back onto cricketing matters.
Former England all-rounder and Channel Ten commentator Flintoff led the support for McLaughlin while AFL player Patrick Dangerfield and ex-first-class cricketer Joe Scuderi also condemned Gayle’s behaviour as “pathetic”.
Channel 10 head of sport, David Barham said the network had already had several conversations with Cricket Australia and was “deeply offended” by Gayle’s comments. Barham said Channel 10 prided itself on promoting women in sport.
“We will be seeking an apology, It was totally inappropriate behaviour. Mel’s a working journalist doing a job.
