The hardest hitter of the cricket ball in modern day cricket, Chris Gayle is a match-winner like none. The T20 format suits his style of batting and he is without a doubt the greatest batsman in this format. A veteran of 222 T20’s playing in leagues around the world he has scored 8224 runs at an average of 44.21; a remarkable record in the shortest format of the game. A batsman who relishes monstrous hits, Gayle is a nightmare for bowlers when in form.
The big man from Jamaica is a magnetic crowd-puller and one cricket’s most entertaining batsmen ever. He was on song in a Big Bash League match in Australia and good the crowd on its feet with some humungous hits to all parts of the ground. Even the commentators couldn’t hide their excitement and seemed to love every bit of it. Playing for Western Warrior, he smashed The NSW bowlers and was particularly severe on Scott Coyte hammering him for 32 runs in one over!
The first ball was a huge 6 over mid-wicket and he followed it up with another maximum; he smoked one down the ground over long-on which went a mile. The third ball was flat batted hit in the same area for another incredible 6 which. The next two balls were dispatched for 2 fours; wide off long on and over point. He completed the carnage with a straight 6 down the ground flat over long off. The West Indian scored a belligerent 61 off 31 balls and his contribution was crucial as his team won a rail curtailed match by 19 runs (D/L method).
