Brisbane Heat skipper Chris Lynn went berserk at the ‘G’ as his brutal hitting power again stole the show. His team made 7-188 from 20 overs against Melbourne Stars that eventually proved enough. Lynn was out by the eighth over but not before he had spanked 56 from just 24 balls at the historic MCG in front of a vociferous crowd. He took 30 from one Ben Hilfenhaus over with five consecutive sixes that deflated the home team to no end.

The right-hander, who is the leading run-scorer in this edition of the BBL and a prime contender for a T20I call-up for Australia’s upcoming series against India, took 16 from one Dan Worrall over, with two sixes, before launching into Hilfenhaus in an extraordinary display of hitting. His sixes, from ball 2 through 6 off the pacer’s first over averaged 93 meters.

The first ball of the over was a slower ball on off-stump pushed to cover by Lynn. This was followed by a humongous 123 meter-hit deep into the stands at deep square leg. The next one was too full on leg stump from Hilfenhaus bowling round the wicket and Lynn swung well, generating enough power with the bottom hand as he flicked it way over the deep midwicket ropes.

The hat-trick of sixes was completed when a full toss on leg stump was flicked away mercilessly. A cross-batted hit over the bowler’s head made it four in a row. This exhilarating stuff and Hilfenhaus’s misery was ended when Lynn cleared his front leg, freed his arms and with a straight bat to smashed another one down the ground. In what was to be the most expensive over of BBL history, Lynn gave a marvelous glimpse of his spectacular ability with the bat.
