Watch: Colin Munro hits the second fastest fifty in T20Is

Sri Lanka had asked New Zealand to chase down 142 to win the second T20I tie, though the target was neither huge nor tricky and the home team had a better chance of winning it but for the sheer manner in which they went past it, certainly must have left the Sri Lankans demoralized. First opener Martin Guptill thrashed them hitting one of the fastest fifties in T20I cricket and the fastest by a New Zealander as he got there in 19 balls.

He continued with same aggression further and by the time Guptill was dismissed on the 25th ball, had hit 63 runs with six boundaries and five sixes. But what followed was another thunderboult knock from the no. 3 Colin Munro who broke Guptill’s freshly made record and scored the second fastest half-century in T20I cricket.

He walked in on the fall of Guptill but did not let the scoring rate fall rather escalated it. Skipper Kane Williamson who had until then played the supporting role for the opener once again let his partner dominate the proceedings. Munro went berserk right from the start of his innings, walking down the track and parking Vandersay for a huge six over long-on on the second ball from his arrival.

He simply smashed and dispatched the Lankan bowlers, to and over the ropes. Munro’s intentions were clear and he nailed whatever came his way and it looked like the Black Caps saw the game as a 10-over deal and not a 20-20.

His knock and the match concluded perfectly when he smashed Chameera for a massive six, as it got him to his fifty on the 14th ball and New Zealand won the game by 9 wickets with 60 balls in hand completing a 2-0 T20I series win.
