Watch: Dale Steyn makes it a memorable day for a kid
South African pace bowler Dale Steyn is widely and justifiably considered to be one of the greatest fast bowlers of all-time. On the field, he is a tough competitor who hates giving and inch to the batters in world cricket. He sports a hostile look, steams in hard and never shies away from throwing a few verbal volleys towards the opponents. Off the field, though, he is one of the most jovial guys around who loves to fool around with his team-mates and also have a bit of fun with his fans.
He has spent much of his time on the sidelines during the ongoing Test series between India and South Africa due to an injury. Often seen talking a walk behind the ropes when the play is in progress, he is all smiles and waves his hand in acknowledgement of the reception he receives from the crowd.
On the 3rd day of the ongoing Delhi Test, he made it a memorable day for a little kid, a ball boy, by lifting him. The little one, in his cricketing whites, got excited upon seeing the fast bowler. He followed Steyn and had a word with him. Steyn turned and much to the delight of the kid lifted him which brought a huge smile on his face. This wonderful gesture from the great man made the kid very happy.
In July this year, during an away tour to Bangladesh, he enjoyed playing barefooted football on the street with local kids there after rain washed out the 4th day’s play of the first Test between the Proteas and the home side. After spotting some kids playing football from his hotel room on Friday, the tear-away fast bowler tweeted: “Stuck in my room all day, watching these kids playing soccer in the rain looks like plenty fun… #shouldigo.” He surely broke the team’s security protocol but won many hearts with his fun-loving nature.
