West Indies and St Lucia Zouks skipper Darren Sammy lit up the 21st match of the CPL with a 35-ball 59. Sammy’s inning propelled Zouks to an exciting 35-run victory. Batting first at the Darren Sammy National Cricket Stadium the home team posted 174 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in their 20 overs. It was Sammy who got his team to a total with which they could impose pressure on the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots and obtain a victory.
On the 3rd ball of the 20th over from Alzarri Joseph which was a free hit Sammy had made room on the off-side but the bowler followed him and bowled it on his pads. The right-hander bent his knees and flicked that ball with the sheer power of his wrists. It traveled the distance and landed well over the ropes. The six that took Zouks total to 173 traveled 87 meters before landing.
The bowler made a good comeback to dismiss Sammy on the very next delivery. He slogged the delivery that was pitched on the off stump but could only top edge it to the fine leg fielder. Joseph after conceding 12 runs in the first three balls gave away one more run via a wide but accounted for 3 wickets to control some damage.
In response, the St Kitts top order failed to give them a good start and it was just on the back of 48 from skipper Faf du Plessis and 30 from JT Smuts that they managed to get somewhere in the range of the target. The team could only manage 139 runs losing 9 wickets in their share of 20 overs thus handing the home team a big win.
