Watch: Dawlat Zadran shows off his six hitting skills to Kevin O’Brien
Afghanistan has a very settled team. Apart from a good batting order, they have a bunch of very good all-rounders who bat really well. In addition, they have bowlers who are quite hard-hitters with the bat. These pinch hitters add depth to the batting order and helps then collect those extra runs towards the end of the innings.
Dawlat Zadran played the pinch hitter when Afghanistan came up against Ireland at Belfast. Chasing 265 to win the series, Zadran struck a useful 31 off 15 balls to keep his team’s hope of winning alive. His knock included two sixes one of which was a direct invitation of a face-off with the bowler Kevin O’Brien.
The scene took place at the start of the 49th over when Zadran backed off from the crease as O’Brien approached the bowling stride. The medium pacer didn’t stop and went and to deliver the ball straight on to the stumps, later asking the umpire about the legality of the ball. It was declared as a dead ball.
Zadran gave a reply the very next delivery by hitting O’Brien over the mid-off region for a six. He followed the hit with a signal towards the boundary line asking the bowler to check where the ball has gone.
Zadran might have taken over the scene but it was the hosts who took over the show eventually. Ireland drew the series with a close 12 win over Afghanistan who were leading the five-match series 2-1 after the first game got washed out.
