Watch: Dead ball sparks humor between Australia and Pakistan

The first Test between Australia and Pakistan at the Gabba, Brisbane is turning out to be one wonderful game of cricket. Pakistan were set a target of record 490 to win. Most of the critics had ruled out the visitors but the way they showed grit and resistance is worth appreciating. Pakistan finished the penultimate day of the Test at 382/8. With 108 runs needed and Asad Shafiq looking solid for his unbeaten 100, the match continues to grip interest.

If the visitors manage to beat Australia in the day night Test, they will create history for sure. The things were pretty heated up and intense at the venue under lights. However, players from both teams managed to get a smile on their faces when there was an untimely dead ball. Pakistan were happily placed at 117/2 with two of their most consistent batsmen, Younis Khan and Azhar Ali, at the crease. Ali had just brought up his fifty and Younis was the man on strike when the action perspired.

It was part time bowler Nic Maddinson who came in to bowl his slow left armers. He ran into the pitching crease and bowled one straight down to the batsman. Batsman Younis remained least interest and perhaps not ready to face it. He did not move one bit and the on-field umpire was quick to call it a dead ball since the batsman did not offer a shot. The slip fielder, skipper Steve Smith looked bemused at the umpire’s call.

Things would have been interesting had the ball hit the stumps. Surely, the team Australia would have been very much interested in going upstairs then. On this occasion, though, the players managed to share a laugh. Nic Maddinson was all smiles as well. The commentators rightly summed up the moment with their expression, “What!”.
