Watch: Dhoni’s Revolutionary Keeping to Dismiss Oram Twice in One Ball: We all know the revolutionising impacts of Mahendra Singh Dhoni as a wicket keeper. This video is nothing but a one out of the innumerable instances for the same. Indian team possessed the safest pair of hands in the likes of MS Dhoni for the past decade and perhaps, quite undoubtedly, he is the best wicket keeper of India and one of the best of the World.
It was the first ODI between New Zealand and India in Napier in March, 2009. The rain interrupted match was reduced to 38 overs a side. India scored a phenomenal total of 273 runs on the board by losing just 4 wickets in the course. MS Dhoni starred with the batting too in that match by top scoring for the team with 84 runs off 89 deliveries.
In reply, Indian bowlers were maintaining the pressure upon the Kiwi batsmen and in the 21st over of the innings, we witnessed the sheer piece of brilliance and incredibly strategic presence of mind from MS Dhoni. Jacob Oram was new to the crease as just in the previous ball of the innings, Grant Elliott was dismissed run out. On seeing a new batsman under pressure, Yuvraj played a trick by tossing the ball up. Oram tried to play a conventional sweep and ended up playing an early shot which led an outside edged shot and the ball went straight up and was caught by Dhoni. But Dhoni acted incredibly smart. Even after catching the ball, he saw that there was a scope for a stumping as Oram’s feet was outside the crease. Dhoni made no delay in dislodging the bails thereby creating a situation for an inevitable dismissal for the batsman. Even if Oram was not given caught dismissal, Dhoni ensured that he had to walk back to the crease as a result of the stumping.
India won the match by a margin of 53 runs as per the D/L method.
