Afghanistan is playing Ireland in the 4th ODI of the five-match series. The visitors asked the hosts to chase down 229 to win the match and take a lead in the series. Ireland had a cautious start as wickets in the key in a tricky chase like that. On the 5th ball of the 6th over Ed Joyce hit the delivery from Yamin Ahmadzai over covers. It was a fluent shot and the batsman deserved four runs for it. But there were two fielders chasing the ball. Mohammad Nabi was one of those and he put in a dive to stop it.
He slid the ball back and his partner threw it to the bowlers end. The batsman Joyce and the non-striker skipper William Porterfield assumed that the ball had crossed over and didn’t quite hurry to the return crease. Yamin had the ball in his hand and the batsman was out of the crease so he dislodged the bails and appealed.
The umpire wasn’t sure if the fielder had collected the ball inside the boundary and so asked Nabi if he had. He raised his finger as the entire Afghanistan team sprint towards him to celebrate the dismissal. Since there was a confusion whether the ball was in play or had gone for a four, the umpires asked the Afghan team if they wanted to withdraw the appeal but they went ahead with it and Joyce was given out.
