Watch: Fans get involved in a tussle during the BPL qualifiers
The Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur witnessed unsavoury scenes in the crowd yesterday during qualifier of the Bangladesh Premier League. In a video released by Daily Star, cricket fans can be seen getting involved in a shuffle during n ongoing match.
The incident occurred in the grandstand after the first match between Rajshahi Kings and Chittagong Vikings. The Rajshahi Kings emerged as the winner and amid the celebrations after the match in the grandstand, two groups of supporters engaged in a physical altercation with each other. The scenes turned uglier after the police officials, who came in after few members from one group went to complain, were also manhandled by the crowd. The banner put up by was also brought down forcibly and there was utter chaos.
Deputy Commissioner of Mirpur Division Masud Ahmed, when contacted to speak about the incident, said that an investigation into the matter will take place soon and mischief’s won’t be spared if some wrongdoing or unlawful activity on the part of the supporters is uncovered, firm action will be taken. However, so far, no action has being taken.
It has been learnt that the supporters of Dhaka Dynamites, who yesterday played in the Qualifier 1 against Khulna Titans, occupied most of the seats in the afternoon at a time when the Dynamites were not even playing. The Rajshahi and Chittagong supporters were miffed by it.
While all these served as a warm-up to the exciting Qualifier 1 game, Dhaka Dynamites later went on to register a smooth win over the Khulna Titans to cruise into the final of the tournament. Led by Andre Russell and Dwayne Bravo’s all-round performances, the Dynamites faced no issues in overpowering the opposition.
