Watch: Funny sledging incidents caught on stump mic
Cricket is called “the gentlemen’s game.” But, the gentlemen’s playing the game sometimes don’t shy away from sledging the opposition. Just like bat and ball, sledging has been an integral part of cricket. There have been many funny as well as serious situations on the cricket field where the players haven potshots at each other. Sledging is a game within a game.
Here in this video compilation, we can see some of the best sledging moments caught on stump mic. The first incident involves former Australia wicket-keeper batsman Adam Gilchrist. Gilchrist defends a ball from medium-pacer, Chris Cairns. The Kiwi wicket-keeper then suddenly tries to provoke Gilchrist shouting “Gilly” “Gilly.” Gilchrist was in no mood to take it and replied in a pretty unkind way leaving the bowler with a stunned face who did not expect this backlash.
The best one of this video is perhaps by South African wicket-keeper Mark Boucher. Boucher is very well-known for his sledging abilities and this epic style of demeaning a batsman give an evidence of it.
Zimbabweans were reeling at 62/4 against South Africa when Tatenda Taibu walked in to bat. Boucher said “ I’m going to get out now because I think you might be averaging single figure this tour” Taibu also did not hold back and replied “ I’ll walk you to the dressing room as well. Boucher did not stop and continued “What you’re averaging? You must know your average ..9..10. Nine or ten ..maybe nine. We’ll give you 10.
The compilation has many such hilarious and quick-witted examples of how cricketers made the best use of their sharp tongues apart from their cricketing abilities to get better of the opponents.
