Watch: Gautam Gambhir hands over man of the match award to Virat Kohli
Gambhir and Kohli were involved in a brilliant 224-run stand for the third-wicket partnership.
In recent times, Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli have been pictured as enemies beyond compare. In spite of the fact that Gambhir actually came out and stated that their brawl in the Indian Premier League, both players have definitely not been viewed as the friendliest on the field of play.
However, while they have been making amends especially with Gambhir having made it back into the Test team, many people forget the defining moment of their friendship in 2009.
In 2009, the Indian team was on the road to redemption. They had a relatively new skipper in Mahendra Singh Dhoni and were on the road to making it one of the best Indian teams to have ever been put out on paper.
While they did indeed go on to succeed, the fact of the matter remained that this was one team that had a lot of strong personalities on the side. Two examples for the same includes Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli.
Things came to a halt against Sri Lanka at the Eden Gardens all those years ago in 2009. India chased down a formidable 315-run target at Eden Gardens set by Sri Lanka. Gambhir and Kohli were involved in a brilliant 224-run stand for the third-wicket partnership. The most impressive part of the ordeal was when Gautam Gambhir requested the Man of the match trophy to be given to Virat Kohli, who had smashed his first ODI ton in the match.
