Watch: Geoff Lawson Getting hit wicket twice but wasn’t Given OUT: We have seen quite a number of bizarre incidents in Cricket and this video is an epitomised example for the same. It was the second test of West Indies’ tour to Australia back in November, 1984 at the Brisbane Cricket Ground. Putting to field first, Australia were shivered by the intensified bowling of the Caribbean line up and they were bundled at the score of just 175 runs.

In reply, West Indies were clearly on the high as they managed to enforce a total of 424 runs on the board, courtesy of two splendid centuries from Richie Richardson and the skipper, Clive Lloyd. West Indies were clearly holding the upper hand of the game and Aussies struggled even in their second innings.

It was in the second innings of Australia when this bizarre incident took place. Michael Holding was bowling decently well and the batsman, Geoff Lawson was obviously put into the back foot. Due to the fact that he was playing on the back foot, he went too much close to the stumps and on a delivery from Holding, the ball was literally drifting down the leg side. Lawson, while trying to glance it, knocked the bails down but no one except a few West Indian players noticed the same and it was rather a half-hearted appeal. The similar thing happened right in the same over for yet another time. This time, Lawson while trying to play a straight drive, not only dislodged the bails with his foot but also the off stump was moved and it was obvious that he was out hit-wicket. The same thing replayed and it lacked notice and appeal by the players to be given out.

Also, there was no scope for a replay due to the lack of technologies back in those days. And there was not even the third umpire to play any part for the same. Things went unnoticed and Lawson showed less amount of cricketing spirit to play with honesty. He did not leave his ground.

He was finally dismissed by Malcolm Marshall and was caught by Sir Viv Richards in the slip cordon. West Indies won the test by a margin of 8 wickets and led the 5-match series 2-0.
