Baroda were playing the strong Delhi team in their 6th match of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2016. Batting first, the Baroda team found themselves in trouble as six of their batsmen were back in the hut with just 60 runs on the board after 12 overs and that is when all-rounder Hardik Pandya decided to take things in his hands and changed the course of the innings. He played a blazing knock of 81* from just 51 balls which was filled with five 4s and six 6s and took his team to 153/6 at the end of 20 overs.

In the 19th over of the innings, Pandya showed how able a batsman he was and displayed his big-hitting prowess as he cleared the ropes on all occasion. The first ball from A Sudan and he lofted it over long-on for a six, the next was a four bye, on the third ball he once again hit a maximum, the forth ball was a waist-high no ball but he still managed to hit it over and collected 7 runs on the ball, the free hit got him a 4, the second last and the last balls of the over earned him 12 runs.

A Sudan’s over to Pandya read – 6, 4b, 6, 6+NB, 4, 6, 6 and by the time he completed six legal deliveries the Baroda all-rounder had plundered him for 39 runs which made it a historic over. Hardik now holds the domestic record for scoring most runs in an over.

Pandya did not stop there and came back with the ball to give Delhi three blows but in the end, Gautam Gambhir’s team was too strong for the home side and they won the match by 5 wickets. The game had little significance in the fate of the two teams as both have already qualified for the Super League from Group C.
