Watch: Head-On Collision between Burns and Henriques While Attempting a Catch
Watch: Head-On Collision between Burns and Henriques While Attempting a Catch: Of late, Cricket turned deadly again! In the match between Surrey and Sussex, there was a pathetic collision between Rory Burns and Moises Henriques of Surrey. Both of them collided while attempting to take a catch in the deep extra cover region.
Burns, aged 24 collided with Australian all-rounder Henriques, and both of them needed on-pitch treatment at Arundel after they tried to take a catch. The two of them went unconscious, such was the impact of the accident. An ambulance was instantly summoned, they were taken out on a stretcher and had to be admitted to the hospital.
Later, a tweet from Surrey, stated that Henriques had broken his jaw in three places while Burns required stitches on head and the facial injuries.
The two umpires of the match, Jeremy Lloyd and Alex Wharf halted the play following the collision in the 19th over of the Sussex innings. As a matter of fact, three ambulances arrived on the outfield in a matter of time and both of them were taken to the hospital around 45 minutes later.
Burns and Henriques were looking at the ball and had their full focus onto it and none of them called for the catch. As a result of which, just when each of them was on the verge of taking the catch, the collision occurred and both the players suffered serious injuries.
As a result of this on-field calamity, the match was being abandoned. Sussex were poised at the score of 141 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in 18.4 overs when it took place. The crowd admired the abandonment and not a single person showed displeasure about the decision. Rather they applauded for the same.
As of now, both the players have recovered successfully from the injury and it is expected that they will soon be back on the ground to continue their cricket.
