Former Pakistan U19 player Imad Wasim must certainly consider himself an unlucky man. Carrying bags of talent and potential, Wasim was run out for a duck as his side faced up to the might of the Peshawar Zalmi at Sharjah in the PSL.

Batting first, Peshawar slammed an impressive 182 in their quota of 20 overs. 35-year-old T20 veteran Mohammed Hafeez was the architect of that innings as he scored an impressive half century. He was well supported by Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal (37) and former Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman Kamran Akmal (30).

Chasing a daunting total of 183, the Karachi Kings began well. However, as most people say, run-outs can certainly turn a match on its head. Enter Imad Wasim. The gritty left-hander showed his intentions as he danced down the wicket in his very first ball. However, a mistimed shot saw the ball race away to deep mid-wicket. As Imad Wasim walked back lazily to the non-striker’s end, he failed to notice deep mid-wicket fielder Shahid Yousuf. The latter, realizing the lazy stroll of Wasim, instinctively threw the ball to the non-striker’s end.

The bowler Mohammed Asghar too showed great presence of mind as he noticed Imad Wasim outside the crease. Wasim was eventually run out for naught. Despite a magnificent half century from Ravi Bopara, the Peshawar Zalmi picked up a narrow three-run win.

Previous instances of such run outs include Robin Uthappa, Inzamam-ul-Haq and Andrew Symonds. Robin Uthappa was one of the unluckiest of the list as he was run out in the similar fashion on his ODI debut against England at Indore.
