The second ODI between India and England at Cuttack looked like a perfect game for the former skipper MS Dhoni. It all looked like the broadcasters had rolled back the years as vintage Yuvraj Singh and Dhoni plundered runs at will in the match. Team India was in a spot of bother early in the innings as they lost three key wickets with just 25 runs on the board.
The worse part of the scenario was that the in form batsman and the Indian skipper Virat Kohli was back in the hut as well. The onus was now on the two senior most members of the team – Yuvraj and Dhoni. Both the batsmen did not let anybody down and a spectacular show was on display for the fans to watch.
Batting together, the veteran duo added 256 runs in 230 deliveries for the 4th wicket. Yuvi ended as the top scorer of the Indian innings as the hosts posted a gigantic 381/6 in their 50 overs. Yuvraj’s knock saw him score 150 off 127 balls. MSD hammered 134 off 122 deliveries and scored a century after almost 3 years. His last ODI ton had come way back in 2013. Most people kept talking about the trailblazing shots that these two gentlemen played.
The English bowlers had very little to enjoy on the day. One moment when they had managed to outplay the Indians went down as a horrid one as well. English pacer Liam Plunkett managed to get through the defenses of MS Dhoni but only to see four runs being added to the Indian total. The incident took place in the 44th over of the match. Dhoni was looking set for a launch on 103. Plunkett overstepped and had to bowl a free hit as a consequence of it.

Much to Dhoni’s surprise, Plunkett bowled a peach delivery on the free hit and that hit the stumps. Much to the dismay of the English side, the ball ran away to the fence after clipping the stumps. It was given as 4 byes by the umpire and India had 4 runs credited to their account despite the batsman being bowled. As the rule says, a batsman can be given out on a free hit delivery only if he is run out. In the match, Plunkett had a forgettable time. He was taken away for 91 runs in his 10 overs.
