In the ICC Champions Trophy 2006 West Indies v Australia game recorded the first hat-trick for Jerome Taylor in Champions Trophy matches. His blistering pace, ceaseless line and nerves of steel helped West Indies record a surprise win over giants Australia.

West Indies had given them a target of 235 and at that stage Australia needed another 21 runs to win from 14 balls and looked almost on course for another win as they had a good finisher at the crease in Mike Hussey.

The Caribbean team had only one way to win the match and that was to get quick wickets. And that is exactly what Jerome Taylor did for his team. Hussey had been kept quiet by the spinners which frustrated him and Taylor was bowling full and straight to him. He tried to swat a straight delivery in the 48th over towards the leg-side and lost his stumps.

Next up to face him was Aussie pacer Brett Lee, Taylor bowled an inswinger to Lee which beat him for pace and to give him out LBW was one of the easier decisions to make for umpire Rudi Koertzen that night. With this wicket, Jerome Taylor reached one step closer to making history but this ball also marked the end of his over.

When Taylor returned to bowl his last and the ultimate over of the match, it was Brad Hogg who was up there facing him. Hogg tried to do it the cheeky way and moved across his crease to hit it in the fine leg area. But Jerome Taylor was too accurate to be hit that way and he failed to make any contact with the ball as she shattered the stump.

It not only completed his hat-trick but also registered a historic win for West Indies. It was the first hat-trick of ICC Champions Trophy 2006 and it came in an important game and at a crucial juncture for Windies.
