South Africa cruised to their first win of the series courtesy of a 7-wicket triumph over England at Centurion. However, Jos Buttler and his antics behind the stumps will be one of the takeaways from the recently concluded fixture. Chasing 319 on a batting paradise, openers Quinton de Kock and Hashim Amla made history by stitching the second highest 1st wicket partnership by a South African pair.
As the Proteas were coasting to a morale-boosting win, Moeen Ali bowled an audacious beamer to South African batsman Hashim Amla. The latter attempted to play the lofted ball while making an unprecedented advance down the track. In spite of Amla’s unusual movement on the pitch, Jos Buttler’s antics behind the stumps seemed more amusing.
Amla, who missed the ball completely was eventually stumped by Jos Buttler. To the crowd’s amusement, Buttler appealed to the square leg umpire firmly believing that Amla had been dismissed. However, despite Buttler’s best efforts, a no-ball was signaled and a free hit was given.
The Proteas, after picking up their first win of the series will be confident going into the fourth ODI. Quinton de Kock (135) and Hashim Amla (127) slammed twin centuries, overshadowing an impressive Joe Root ton. De Kock was named the man of the match following his impressive performance with the bat.
