After a disastrous Test tour, Pakistan looked to restore some lost pride in the ODI series against Australia but things didn’t go their way in the opening match. After an impressive performance from the bowlers at the Gabba, the batsmen let go the advantage and surrendered meekly against resurgent Australian bowlers and eventually lost the match by 92 runs.

Coming into the 2nd encounter, Pakistan looked to revive themselves and pose a threat to their much-fancied opposition. The bowlers again began brilliantly and had the Aussies under serious pressure by reducing them to 41/3 under 10 overs. It was a beautiful display of swing bowling by comeback man Junaid Khan as he showed the world why he was pressing for a national call-up.

First, he got hard-hitting southpaw David Warner who has been in the scintillating form off late. It shaped away just a tad from the back of a length as he tempted the batsman to go after it providing him with enough width. Warner chased it with an angled bat and managed an outside edge which was safely taken by wicket-keeper Mohammad Rizwan. He added one more to his kitty by removing Usman Khawaja in the 8th over to reduce the Aussies to 40/2.

Mohammad Amir joined in the fun by dismissing Mitchell Marsh in the very next over. Apart from a fluent half-century by captain Steve Smith the Aussies never recovered from their poor start and looked down the barrel.

Comeback man Junaid Khan came back strongly in his 2nd spell and inflicted a brilliant run out. During the 46th over of the innings, with the Aussies score at 207/7, Mitchell Starc attempted a quick single of a slower delivery. Junaid who was aware of the circumstances came running down to the pitch and released the ball in practically no time. The ball went to crash onto the stumps as Starc was nowhere in the picture.

The Aussies were eventually bundled out for 228 in 48.2 overs. This might be the biggest opportunity for Pakistan to get off the mark in the tour Down Under.
