Watch: Lakshan Sandakan spins it a mile to clean up Joe Burns
Lakshan Sandakan’s incredible delivery to get rid of Joe Burns in the 4th innings was the highlight of the day four. The chinaman has been getting a lot of support from the surface and he’s making full use of it.
The Australians, chasing 268 to win, saw themselves in a spot of trouble after losing David Warner and Usman Khawaja cheaply. Joe Burn and skipper Steve Smith then held the fort and took things forward. However, the pair could not survive together for long and were able to add only 30 runs for the 3rd wicket before Burns was undone by a gem of a delivery.
Sandakan, the left-arm wrist spinner, snapped a four-wicket haul in the first innings, chipped his first on day four after he crashed through Burns’ gate with a huge turner. The ball delivered gently at around 74 kmph from over the wicket spun like magic and cramped Burns for room as he chopped the ball onto the stumps. It was a great sighting to see his stock ball rip off from the surface in such manner.
Sandakan and Herath have formed a great spin bowling partnership together and have managed to keep the Australians under pressure very successfully. The pair took four wickets each in the first innings to help Sri Lanka stay in the game despite the opposition getting a healthy lead.
