The India vs New Zealand 2nd Test match was hanging in balance on the 3rd day morning. Though the Kiwis were bowled out for 204 in their first inning, 112 runs behind Team India’s score they walked out to bowl the second time with a lot of intent.

Their pacers led by Trent Boult bowled probing lines and used the assistance on offer from the Eden Gardens wicket to make life difficult for the bat wielders.

Matt Henry also troubled the Indians moving the ball and also surprising them with an occasional bouncer. Having lost both the openers Murali Vijay, Shikhar Dhawan, No. 3 Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane early the onus was on skipper Virat Kohli to play a knock and bail the team out of troubles and to help them extend the lead where the Black Caps could no longer get close.

He opted for the counter-attacking strategy and decided to play his shots, the glorious cover drives were flowing and on one Trent Boult delivery that went to the slips Kiwi skipper Ross Taylor was sure Virat had edged it but it turned out that the ball lobbed in the air having hit his pads, the umpire had a clue of it and didn’t give it out.

Taylor wasn’t really impressed as according to him, they had their man. When the umpire turned their appeal down he first shouted the customary F word and then followed it up with B******d. Kohli who was also looking behind to see where the ball had gone was amused with the New Zealander swearing in Hindi. He gave him a familiar look as we all know how much Kohli loves his slangs.

The Indian captain played a striking knock and scored 45 runs but was dismissed lbw to Boult. Rohit Sharma and Wriddhiman Saha both his half centuries thereafter and took the Indian team to an overall lead of 375 where they could come out and fire the New Zealanders out.
