Watch: Luckless Wriddhiman Saha gets dismissed in an unusual manner
Wickets fell aplenty on the day 2 of the 3rd Test between India and South Africa. But, it was Wriddhiman Saha’s wicket that was little unusual. Saha came in to bat after Virat Kohli departed. He along with Rohit Sharma began to bat responsibly and kept the scoreboard moving slowly.
South African spinner Imran Tahir, who was bowling in full flow, looked threatening. As it happened in the 35th over, Tahir bowled a leg break to Wriddhiman Saha who was batting confidently. Saha tried to play a paddle sweep with a close faced bat. But, the ball gripped the surface and spun little more than expected to hit Saha’s gloves. It deflected onto wicketkeeper Dane Vilas’ right boots. The ball then cleanly bounced off his boots to go higher up into the air and landed in the waiting hands of Hashim Amla standing at the first slip.
Initially, the umpire was unsure about the dismissal when Tahir and the close-in fielders appealed. Therefore, the decision was referred with the third umpire. The replays clearly showed that the ball had bounced off Vilas’ boots and popped up high in the air. The dismissal was finally confirmed by the third umpire and Imran Tahir successfully claimed his fourth wickets.
It was one of those occasions when you see an unusual dismissal which has more to do with luck, Saha would have got off with this one on any other day with the ball either bumping or landing in no man’s land.
