Watch: Manish Pandey hits a strangest shot batting against RPS
Not the most elegant shot by any means.
Kolkata Knight Riders’ ace batsman Manish Pandey is renowned for his unorthodox batting. His lofts, drives, and cuts are absolutely out of the coaching manual, yet he is one of the most effective batsmen around. Many may not know, Pandey, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja were a part of the Under-19 World Cup winning squad in 2008, held in Kuala Lumpur.
The trio is now representing the country in the limited-overs format, even though Pandey took his time to break into the national side. He became a force to reckon with after his spirited performance at the Sydney ODI, where he helped India to chase down a daunting total of 331 with his maiden century a knock of 104 off just 81 deliveries. Pandey kept his cool even though India lost the wicket of the greatest finisher of world cricket, MS Dhoni.
Since then, the Karnataka lad has not been able to convert his glamorous starts into something substantial in one-day cricket. Kedar Jadhav eclipsed the brilliance of Pandey in the recent series against New Zealand and England.
However, in this edition of the IPL, Manish Pandey has looked at his fluent best, playing some of the most decisive innings for the Knight Riders. With his team at peril when he came into bat against Delhi Daredevils, together with Yusuf Pathan he stitched a counter attacking match-changing partnership and finished the game for his side.
In yesterday’s match against Rising Pune Supergiant, he wanted to repeat his heroics of the Feroz Shah Kotla while trying to post a dominating total against the celebrated lineup of RPS.
He played a vital 32-ball 37 and helped his side post a respectable total of 155. In the ninth over of their innings, Shardul Thakur pitched a short delivery at Pandey and the latter tried to duck under it with his bat up high. The ball deflected off the bat and landed in front of the third man.
This is not the first time Manish Pandey found himself in an awkward position to play a shot.
