Watch: Matt Prior gets hit nastily behind the stumps
Watch: Matt Prior gets hit nastily behind the stumps: Wicketkeeping is a tough responsibility to handle. A small concentration lapse and you would miss the simplest of chances to get you ahead of the opposition. And, when keeping for a spinner, you need to be more alert.
The stumpers are protected with pads, gloves and a helmet, however, from time to time, there come situations which are unexpected and can give you unbearable pain. Something similar happened with the former England wicket keeper Matt Prior.
India was in a comfortable situation at 213/4 with a lead of 364 runs over England. Yuvraj Singh was at strike with Gautam Gambhir at the non-striker’s end. England bowlers were having a little tough day at the field. Graeme Swann ran in, to bowl a wide off-break to Yuvraj. Yuvi decides to do some unorthodox stuff. Upon seeing the ball going away from him, he tried to reverse-sweep it towards fine leg. The ball bounces little higher than expected and Yuvraj is only able to hit with the bottom of the bat.
This mistimed shot, however, proved to be a cause of unpleasant discomfort for wicketkeeper Matt Prior. Prior was in his normal follow through but the ball jumped off the bat of the batsman with double force and hit him on the neck. The impact of the blow was visible as the English keeper was on his knees. The pugnacious wicket keeper showed some toughness by quickly getting up, rolling his arms and getting ready to continue play.
