Losing his wicket after a swashbuckling innings of 45 runs from 15 balls, Gayle was interviewed at the dug out by Mel McLaughlin. In the spur of the moment, Gayle said, “To see your eyes for the first time is nice. Hopefully, we can have a drink afterwards. Don’t blush baby,”

Though some found it chucklesome at the moment, it did not go down well with many who accused Gayle for being too cheeky with someone doing her job.Earlier, this morning, Gayle told reporters: “There wasn’t anything meant to be disrespectful or offensive to Mel. If she felt that way, I’m really sorry for that.” He felt that his comments were blown out of proportion.

When Mclaughlin was asked about the incident, she stated that she was a little bit uncomfortable since she’s not used to being at the centre of any sort of story. “I would have much preferred to be talking about that instead,” she said, talking about Gayle’s innings in the match. Talking about Gayle offering an apology, she said, “I accept that. I just want to move on,”

McLaughlin also cleared the air by saying that she never felt like she was a personal target of sexual harassment at work which has been a pressing issue for many women who work in sport. “There’s a certain stigma that people like to talk about with women in sport. I haven’t felt that. Yes, it’s meant something to a lot of female journos, men as well as women in general. It’s certainly snowballed. I love my job and I’d just rather be talking about that,” McLaughlin said.

Gayle escaped suspension, he was fined $10000 for the comments.
