England’s Michael Lumb, with his dismissal, got a glimpse of the fielding standards in the Big Bash League. The 14th match of the BBL is being contested between the home team Adelaide Strikers and Sydney Sixers in front of a capacity crowd at The Adelaide Oval. Lumb, who opens the batting for Sixers, was batting brilliantly having smashed 2 sixes and 2 fours. The two left-handers, Lumb and Ed Cowan gave their team a flying start by adding 66 for 6.5 overs that put the pressure on the home side.
The last ball of the 7th over though produced a magical moment on the field. The Englishman, batting on 31 off 22, was out to a sensational catch by Alex Ross. Lumb went for a lofted drive over covers and holed out to an absolute blinder from Ross whose full-length dive with feet parallel to the ground made for a spectacular viewing. It turned out to be a turning moment in the innings as the Sixers lost the momentum they had gained at the start.
BBL is known to witness incredible catches and this one was no different. The manner in which Ross sprinted across the ground and threw himself to grab the ball was nothing short of amazing. It won’t be a surprise if this catch features amongst the best of the ongoing 5th edition by the time it ends. Australia’s fielding standards at the international as well the domestic level have always been high and this remarkable catch showcases it to the fullest.
