India’s captain MS Dhoni surely had the worst night after India lost to the West Indies in the second semi-final of the World T20 2016 at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. India scored 192 batting first for the loss of two wickets. Virat Kohli led the batting with a brilliant 89* and openers Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane gave India the ideal start.
Despite getting Chris Gayle out for 5, India couldn’t lodge off Johnson Charles and Lendl Simmons who added 97 runs for the 2nd wicket and took the game out of India’s hand. And taking wickets off no-balls didn’t help India either and eventually, they lost the match by 7 wickets.
In the post-match press conference, Dhoni seemed in his usual mood and was answering all the questions in his usual jest. He did appear disappointed at the loss, but it didn’t appear to have any effect on his sense of humor, though.
He was smiling and knew the sort of questions that were coming his way and he seemed to have his answers ready. But when an Australian reporter asked him the all usual question of whether he will continue playing T20Is for India, Dhoni’s sense of humor decided to bring some much-needed lightness in the situation. He called the reporter on the dais and asked him that it would have been better if the reporter was from Indian press, but he asked him that if he had any relatives who would play for the national team.
When the reporter said no, he again asked that do you see me unfit? Did he see me running out there taking the doubles and singles or whether he should continue till the 2019 World Cup? The reporter said yes and finally Dhoni asked whether he should retire, the press reporter stuttered and said no. Dhoni laughed and said; there you have it, your answer sir.
The whole room echoed with laughter and we all got to see Dhoni’s funny side despite the loss.
