Ajinkya Rahane belongs to Maharashtra. He lives in Mumbai now, which is the capital of Maharashtra. When he was dismissed and started making the long walk back to the pavilion at the MCA Stadium in Pune, there was a massive roar in the crowd.
The reason for that roar was MS Dhoni as he strode out to bat at No. 4. One of the most celebrated cricketers of India; Dhoni has a huge fan following across the country. He struggled to get going in the first phase of the tournament but of late was striking it decently. There was a spring in his stride today as he took strike.
KKR skipper Gautam Gambhir wanted to put Dhoni immediately under pressure and brought in three catchers including himself at silly point. This might not have gone well with Dhoni because a batsman’s ego is hurt if they see a Test match field set for them with just a little over 6 overs to go for the end of the innings.
He quickly got into the groove taking 3 off the first three balls he faced. The power hitter whipped the next one he faced from leg-spinner Piyush Chawla through mid-wicket to pick up his first boundary. The next ball was deposited over the sightscreen as Dhoni stepped out and tonked the ball over Chawla’s head.
Dhoni hitting sixes early in the innings is a terrific sight for the spectators. He normally takes his time at the start of the innings but today he looked in the mood.
Kuldeep Yadav bowled the next over and knew that Dhoni will be coming at him. He anticipated the move and dropped it short and the experience of Dhoni came to the fore. He sat back in the crease and pulled the long hop over mid-wicket for his second six. That was a great contest to watch as it was the case of who blinks first.
