Apart from the fact that Indian skipper MS Dhoni won yet another toss, the 35-year old India skipper had a few inspiring words for the Indian supporters watching the Indians play on the day. The gesture by the Indian team saw them pay their respects to their mothers on the day by donning their mother’s names on the back of their jerseys.
Speaking about the same during the toss time, Dhoni reiterated that this was a great initiative by the organizers to have such a thing going for them. Also, he went on to reveal the emotional connect he had with his mother during his early days as a child.
“I think it’s a brilliant initiative (speaking about the special jersey designed with mother’s name). Also what’s important is that we are quite used to surname from dad’s side, but it’s important to appreciate the contribution of moms.”
“If you ask me, I was always emotionally connected towards my mom. It’s just that the mother’s contribution often we don’t appreciate it the same way. It’s something I request and the whole of India should keep in their mind,” he told.

He had also made a few important announcements with regard to the team selection. “It (The pitch) looks flat, we played a bit of IPL here. A bit of humidity earlier, but it will get better. I think it’s a brilliant initiative (speaking about the special jersey which is designed particularly for today’s game).
“It’s important to appreciate the contribution of mothers. Often we talk about soldiers and get patriotic. Bumrah is fit and Jayant Yadav will make his debut,” Dhoni said.
This is the final ODI between India and New Zealand in the series. Should New Zealand claim a win, it would be the first time the Kiwis have claimed a win in a bilateral series against India in the subcontinent.
