MS Dhoni thrives on UNORTHODOXY. Dhoni’s approach towards batting and wicket keeping cannot be found in the coaching manual. He has, on many occasion, left the purists the oppositions and even his own talented teammates with his unusual methods of playing the game. The most stunning part of his habit of pulling out surprising move is that on almost all occasions, his tactics succeed.

Fans in Mahi’s hometown, Ranchi, today had the opportunity to witness one of his unconventional methods during the fourth ODI in Ranchi. In the 46th over of New Zealand’s innings, Ross Taylor became a victim of Dhoni’s street smartness. Taylor flicked a Hardik Pandya towards the fine leg boundary and quickly rushed for a double after completing the single. Dhawal Kulkarni, standing at the ropes had by then collected the ball and threw to his captain.

Dhoni, with his back towards the stumps, was not near the stumps like normal wicket keepers stand while collecting the ball from the deep. However, Dhoni collected the ball and threw it onto the stumps as Taylor found himself out by of his crease and India broke through with a wicket.

Kane Williamson won the toss for the first time in the tour and chose to bat first. After a good start initially, the Blacks Caps lost their plot once again and were able to post only 260/7 in the must-win game after being 184/2 at one stage.
