Watch: MS Dhoni uses an unorthodox trick to save runs
MS Dhoni is a street smart cricketer. He puts unorthodoxy to great use, be it his batting, leadership or wicket keeping. His presence of mind on-field has resulted in many cheeky dismissals in the past.
Dhoni as a wicket-keeper is flawless, especially when standing up at the stumps to the spinners. During the Kings XI Punjab game at the Mohali yesterday, he showcased an outstanding example of his presence of mind on the field.
The MS Dhoni-led Rising Pune SuperGiants batted first and had set a target of 153 runs for the Kings XI Punjab team. The Punjab side, in reply, began quite steadily with Manan Vohra and Murali Vijay batting solidly. Left-arm spinner Ankit Sharma, who had bad first over, was re-introduced to the attack after the powerplay in the 7th over where he conceded only 4 runs. He continued in the 9th over and stuck to a tight line and restricted the Vijay and Vohra from taking advantage.
After struggling to get going against the left arm spinner in the first two balls of the over, Vohra tried something different and played a late cut intending to send the ball to the third man. However, the ball could not go past the wicket-keeper as Dhoni stuck his right leg out to get in the way of the ball saving a possible couple of runs for the team. It was an excellent thinking from the skipper.
