Australian wicketkeeper Peter Nevill had a cheeky stumping on the fourth day of the third Test match to dismiss Dimuth Karunaratne off the bowling of Nathan Lyon.

The batsman was squared up by a beautiful off-spinner from Nathan Lyon, as the ball was collected by the wicket-keeper Nevill. At the point of time, the batsman’s feet was grounded as he lifted it to get back to the crease, Nevill stumped him out. Karunaratne was not aware of the wicket-keeper waiting for the batsman to lift his leg – as it was a cheeky stumping. The appeal was reviewed and Karunaratne was adjudged stumped.

Sri Lanka resumed the day on 22 runs for the loss of one wicket they had on Day 3. As the day progresses the duo continued, until this happened in the 14th over of the match, as the scoreboard read 44/2.

Nevill, who does not have a good time with the bat in the series, has been highly vigilant behind the stumps. This is not the first time a wicketkeeper has been involved in such an incident. Former England gloveman Alec Stewart has also completed a similar stumping of West Indian star batsman Brian Lara in a one-day clash in Sharjah in 1997.

His stumping had faced a flurry of social-media reactions questioning the spirit of cricket. However, the batsman doesn’t show any decent as he is given out by the third umpire.

World Champions Australia are two down in the three-Test match series and the third Test match is well poised. No.1 ranked Australia is all set to lose the top ranking after the series defeat against the No.5 ranked Sri Lanka.
