The 2nd ODI of the ICC Women’s Championship, which is currently underway in Manuka Oval, Australia, today saw a breathtaking fielding effort from South African Women cricketer Mignon du Preez. Opener Nicole Bolton was finding it really tough to get going and her attempt to break free resulted in a stunning spectacular fielding effort from Du Preez.

Meg Lanning’s decision to bat first after winning the toss backfired as their openers Nicole Bolton and Elyse Villani failed to get going. A bit of pressure mounted on Bolton when her partner was dismissed. With the South Africa bowlers bowling very economically, the left-hander had no option but to start batting with a bit of aggression. The attitude helped and got her 4 boundaries but also eventually marked the end of her stay.

In the 7th over, medium pacer Ayabonga Khaka away going delivery prompted the left-hander to cut the ball. She slashed but did not hit it hard enough to beat Mignon du Preez, who produced a piece of magic backward of point, taking a brilliant leaping catch to end the Bolton’s knock for 18. The effort had everyone impressed especially Australian great and commentator Mel Jones calling it as “one of the best catches you’ll see this summer”.

South African women gained a quick upper hand over the match and Bolton’s dismissal triggered a dry spell for the hosts. Skipper Meg Lanning and Ellyse Perry spent 16 balls without scoring a run. However, the duo soon settled in and put Australia in a commanding position. Meg Lanning slammed a century and Ellyse Perry struck her career highest score to power their team to 278 runs for the loss of 4 wickets. South Africa ladies lost the game by 66 runs via D/L method.
