India off-spinner Ravi Ashwin may be in the West Indies. But, that does not mean that he shuns away from the Olympics given his cricketing commitments. PV Sindhu clinched India’s first ever silver in Badminton in the 2016 edition of the Olympics in Rio. However, with rain abandoning play on the second day of the Test match, it was certain that the Indian cricket team had enough time to follow the happenings in Rio.
On the 20th of August, a billion eyeballs were focused on the inches-long Badminton arena in Rio when Sindhu squared-off against World No. 1 Carolina Marin. Sindhu rallied in the first set, exhibiting a series of fantastic points to ensure a win 21-19. However, the second set saw the World No. 1 come into her own as he aggressively took charge of the match, something that would play a vital role in winning the battle between the ears for both players.

Moreover, the fact of the matter remained as Sindhu notched up a valiant fight. However, as they say, you don’t just become the world number one player by rolling over against a strong challenger. This was the one thing that stood between Sindhu and Marin as the latter went on to clinch the medal. While this took place, although a billion hearts were indeed broken, it was clear that a billion hearts were overcome with sympathy as well, something that made Sindhu the most searched woman on Google.
Speaking following the events of the game, Ravi Ashwin, who was clearly overwhelmed by the achievement sent out a video message to Sindhu stating that he would love for his daughter to take up badminton in the near future.
