Watch: Ravichandran Ashwin bowls a beauty to dismiss Alastair Cook
Ravichandran Ashwin is becoming India’s go-to man in all formats of the game. The kind of form he is in, he looks like a legend in the making. Prior to the commencement of the India and England series, he was being tipped as the man to watch out for. The off-spinner has not disappointed one bit. Despite having had a poor start to the series, he is now getting into his groove.
He is getting a lot of purchase from the surfaces and the drift that he is able to get is doing wonders for him. He is getting better with each passing Test. Ravichandran Ashwin has the habit of making the opposition team’s main man his bunny. He tormented Kumar Sangakkara when India toured Sri Lanka last year. In the recently concluded New Zealand series, Kane Williamson was his victim.
Now, he seems to have chosen the England skipper Alastair Cook to be his bunny. He got the wicket of Cook on the very first ball after the drinks break in the first innings. He backed it up with a beauty to dismiss Cook in the second innings. After having troubled Cook for a couple of overs, Ravichandran Ashwin finally got the better of the opposition skipper.
A flighted delivery on middle and off that spun just enough to hit the off stump. It was a classical off-spinner and a delight for any off-spinner in the world watching the ball. He managed to get through the narrow gap between bat and pad to hit the timber work. Alastair Cook played for the extra turn and gave his wicket away.
Earlier, he had a couple of close shouts against Alastair Cook. On one of the deliveries, Ashwin managed to hit the pads of Cook. The on-field umpire had ruled it out. However, a review from the English skipper saved him for another few deliveries and the decision was overturned. Ashwin had the last laugh, though. He got the key wicket.
