Most people have a routine while they do a certain task – while bowlers play with the ball moving it around in their hands the batsmen rotate their bat grip, some undo and redo their gloves, move the helmet among a lot of other things. In the present crop of batsmen, Steve Smith not only stands out with his class but also for his routine. Indian allrounder Ravindra Jadeja who loves to enjoy each bit of the time the middle today impersonated Smith while bowling to him.
Team India had a horrid day with the bat and were dismissed for their lowest score of the season a mere 105. Only three batsmen managed to get into the double digits and the biggest shock for fans was skipper Virat Kohli getting out for a duck. Australia having gained a 155-run lead walked out to bat for the second time in the second session itself. After David Warner got out early Smith was there in the middle and defied the Indian spinners.
With the help of India’s close-in fielders who gave him life after life Smith scored a half century and took his team to a lead two short of 300 by the time play closed on Day 2. He batted well against the spinners also was lucky to survive with the ball continuously beating the outside edge of the bat.
Coming back to Smith’s fidgety batting routine, it is pretty difficult to define it as there is so much happening in so little time as he prepares to face the next ball. Jadeja loves to run and complete his overs as quickly as possible to give the batsmen as little time as possible and Smith, on the other hand, takes his time. The left-arm spinner wasn’t quite impressed with that and showed him that right in the face.
