Rohit Sharma started the Indian innings against Australia in the 1st ODI at Perth quite patiently as Shikhar Dhawan also looked to stay on before playing his shots, but Dhawan soon perished on the team score of 39 and Virat Kohli joined Sharma at the middle. Both the batsmen who have enjoyed batting together and particularly against Australia held the innings from there and put up a 200+ runs partnership, though Kohli got out on 91, Rohit carried on and got a yet another 150+ score.

He got to the triple figures and once again showed his ability to convert hundreds into bigger ones. Sharma was playing freely and hitting his shots towards the end of the innings, he hit 13 fours and 7 sixes during his 163-ball stay. He scored his runs with a strike rate of 104.90.

While batting on 159 with the team score four short of 300 he attempted to hit debutant Boland fine towards fine-leg but the ball took a top edge off his bat and flew over the head of the wicketkeeper to land just ahead of the ropes for a four. Though not intentional it proved a productive shot as it also brought 300 up for the Indian team on the second ball of the 50th over.

India finished with 309 runs in their quota of overs as Rohit was unbeaten on 171. It was the openers knock that gave that helped the team get a par total though Australia have not lost an ODI down under from the last 14 matches a total in access of 300 won’t be an easy chase.
