Watch: S Sreesanth at his prime demolishes Gilchrist and Hayden: Gilchrist and Hayden, the two potential marauders of the cricket ball can prove to be a nightmare for even the best of bowlers. They are probably the most dreaded opening combination in the history of limited overs format. Getting both of their wickets in a single match would probably make the day for any bowler, and to add more glory to it, if it was in the grandest stage of them all, in the world cup? That immense satisfaction will surely take at least some time to die down.

Santhakumaran Sreesanth did just that, racking up the wickets of the two extremely dangerous Gilchrist and Hayden in the all important semi final match of the 2007 T20 World Cup. Batting first India had posted a quite daunting total of 188 on the board. The ghosts of 2003 WC still haunted the Indian team and Sreesanth with his fabulous brilliance, coupled with the moxie required for a big game like this proved to be the rightful exorcist of those ghosts. He rattled the stumps of both Hayden and Gilchrist. Both the wickets invited such passionate celebration from the fans who seemingly transcended into the euphoric state witnessing the brilliance of Sreesanth.

After the early wicket of Gilchrist, the wobbling Australian boat was steadied by the man with a mongoose willow Mathew Hayden. Australia looked well set for a win, and if it weren’t for the charismatic Sreesanth, India wouldn’t have gone on to the finals where they eventually ended up as the winners of the world cup.
